I am a retired law enforcement/criminal investigator, 100% disabled from the USAF. As with most police around the country, I am was trained and retrained over and over again in Police Defensive Tactics (DT). DT is based on Aikido and has many of the same control tactics and takedowns, along with pain compliance.
I found that DT works great- on the mat, with your buddies, you are not trying to hurt each other, and you are all susceptible to pain. But on the street, I soon discovered it was not so much. On the streets, people are often drunk, on drugs, overly belligerent, or otherwise not susceptible to pain.
So in about 2011, I started looking for something else- something much more effective for my children and me to start training in. I found that many police departments, various military units, and even civilians were transitioning to Krav Maga.
So, in March of 2011, we started training. In 2016 I went to school and became an instructor, and in 2017 I received my Black Belt, along with my son, and my youngest daughter received her Brown Belt.
I grew up in the Bronx, as a street fighter, basically. I spent a career in law enforcement. I found in law enforcement, some people did not take kindly to being arrested for some crazy reason and they chose to play what we called, "Dog-pile on the rabbit". So I know a little bit about what works and what is nonsense. So come join me in class and learn the most effective self-defense system I know of.
